The Little People

Commissioned by dancer and choreographer, Maura Michelle Garcia, this is a video interpretation and documentation of Garcia’s The Little People. The Little People explores the many ways of being of the Cherokee fairies, the yvwi tsvsdi. Their joyful, compassionate, mischievous, and revengeful natures: their shifts between worlds and crossings over. As we treat them, they react accordingly, helping or harming. They are a gauge of our behavior: a mirror of ourselves. The Little People is about the fairies of Cherokee country, but it is also about having, loosing and reclaiming traditional beliefs and a conscious Native identity.
